Irish Soda Bread with Maytag Blue & Walnuts

Enjoy a warm, comforting twist on traditional Irish Soda Bread, made with walnuts and creamy Maytag Blue Cheese Crumbles. 

 

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 2 Tbsp cold butter, cubed
  • 3/4 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 4 oz. Maytag Blue Cheese Crumbles

 

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400° F. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and sugar. 
  2. Add the cubed butter. With your hands, knead the butter into the flour mixture until just combined. 
  3. Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Mix gently until a dough forms. 
  4. Gently fold in the chopped walnuts and Maytag Blue Cheese Crumbles until evenly mixed. 
  5. Place the dough on a lightly floured surface and shape into a round loaf. 
  6. Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 35-45 minutes, until golden brown.
  7. Once baked, transfer to a wire rack and cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
